If your cholesterol is higher than what is considered normal, lowering your cholesterol level is a must. This can be done by a healthy balanced diet, exercise, and cholesterol lowering supplements.

It is important that you have regular check ups with your doctor to determine your cholesterol level. If you are not aware of what is happening to your body, you will be prone to many health hazards that can be fatal if not nipped in the bud. High levels of cholesterol in the system is the main culprit of many health related fatalities annually.

An increased level of cholesterol in the body causes the narrowing and blockage of arteries. If the arteries leading to your heart are blocked, it will cause a heart attack. If the arteries to your brain are blocked, it will cause stroke. These are two of the most common causes of death in recent years. Now, it is not entirely surprising why demand for cholesterol lowering supplements is higher than ever.

To keep your cholesterol level in the lower and healthy spectrum, avoid food with high bad cholesterol content. These are usually oily and greasy foods and sugar laden food and drinks. Instead, eat more fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber. Also, obtain your good cholesterol from food sources high in omega 3 fatty acids such as nuts and fish. Don’t forget to incorporate exercise in your daily routine as it is shown to effectively lower your cholesterol level when combined with a healthy diet.

If your cholesterol level is at such levels that exercise and diet alone are not sufficient, or if cholesterol laden foods are just too much of a temptation for you, cholesterol lowering supplements are recommended. Most of these supplements are usually made out of extracts from natural food sources such as artichokes, fish oils, fiber, garlic, ginseng, niacin and the like, which studies have shown to increase the circulation in the body and lower cholesterol levels.

However, like any other supplements or medication, it is crucial to talk to your doctor about cholesterol lowering supplements before you decide to incorporate them in your diet. Your health condition, medications, and age are important factors to determine whether or not these supplements are recommended for you.
